
Edward V. Demenchonok
Was born on 1 January 1942 in Vitebsk, Belarus. He earned a B.A. degree in Music in 1961. He graduated with a M.A. in Russian and Spanish languages and literatures from the Moscow State University in 1969. He holds a Ph.D. in philosophy (1977) from the Institute of Philosophy of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Moscow, where he has worked as a Senior Researcher from 1970 to 1995.
He also taught as an Associate Professor of Philosophy at Moscow State University and a Professor at Moscow Pedagogical State University. He participated in founding the Academy of Slavic Culture in Moscow. During 1988-1990 he was in Colombia as a Visiting Professor at the University INCCA of Colombia, Bogota. He was a Visiting Professor at the University of Georgia, Athens, USA, from 1992 to 1993. Since 1995 he has been a Professor of Foreign Languages and Philosophy at Fort Valley State University, USA.
His fields of research work include philosophy of culture, political philosophy, and ethics. He has published well over 70 book chapters and articles. The five most recent of his eleven authored, edited, and co-edited books are The Quest for Change: From Domination to Dialogue (2016), A World Beyond Global Disorder: The Courage to Hope (with Fred Dallmayr, as co-editor, 2017), Intercultural Dialogue: In Search of Harmony in Diversity (2016), Philosophy After Hiroshima (2010), and Between Global Violence and the Ethics of Peace: Philosophical Perspectives (2009).
He was a participant in the World Congresses of Philosophy in 1987 (Cordova, Argentina), XX in 1998, Boston; XXI in 2003, Istanbul; XXII in 2008, Soul; XXIII in 2013, Athens; and XXIV in 2018, Beijing. He participated in the World Public Forum “Dialogue of Civilizations” in 2015, 2016, 2017, and 2018. He was also a presenter at the International Congresses for Intercultural Philosophy: Ist in 1995, Mexico-City; IV in 2001, Bangalore; XI in 2015, Santo Domingo; and XII in 2017, Barcelona. He also participated in the conferences of the Concerned Philosophers for Peace in 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, and 2019. Among his other conference participations are: Fulbright Seminar on Tradition and Transformation in Singapore and Malaysia, 1998; 13th Inter-American Congress of Philosophy in 1999, Puebla, Mexico; the 9th International Seminar of the Program of the North-South Dialogue in 2002, Mexico-City; and the 9th Latin American Congress of Political Science (ALACIP) in 2017, Montevideo.
He is a recipient of theTwenty-First Century Award: Illuminated Diploma of Honor in recognition of outstanding achievements in the field of Philosophy, from the International Biographical Centre, Cambridge, England, 2001.
He received an award for Scholarship at the Fort Valley State University in 2015 and 2016.
